Patients or clients sometimes believe that if a little of something works, then more is better. This is not always true when it comes to peels as each person’s skin type is different, especially if the patient’s skin is inflamed.
An aggressive treatment can only worsen the skin and may not correct or improve it.
It is a mistake to assume that only the highest strength of products will get the quickest results. This can lead to many complications such as post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, breakouts, and other unwanted side effects.
The strength and depth of each peel is controlled by the number of layers applied during the process, pH, type of peel, and patient’s skin sensitivity.
Also known as light or lunchtime peels, these are stronger than micro peels, but rarely cause redness or peeling. Great for sensitive skin, for those who are new to peeling, and for maintaining clear, glowing skin.

There are many factors that can affect the depth of a peel such as pre-peel treatment, peel-prep, skin sensitivity and thickness, pH, and the strength of peel acids to name a few. We recommend you complete a patient profile for each peel patient so you understand he or she’s skin sensitivity and history.
Medium and deeper peels such as TCA may cause more visible peeling as they penetrate deeper into the skin and at times can cause a frost to occur in some clients. This typically only happens with strength level 3 peels.
Post treatment expectations
It is necessary to replenish your skin of nutrients, antioxidants, and vitamins immediately after a peel.
The peel strips away dead and dull skin cells on the surface by creating a controlled damage to the skin, leaving it sensitive, irritated, and dehydrated.
May repeat treatment once every 1-3 weeks depending on peel strength level, skin sensitivity, and/or tolerance.
It is best to start off at once every 14 days and you can make proper adjustments based off how the skin handles or tolerates the peel. This chart is only a guideline and can be adjusted based off the patient’s skin type and sensitivity to the peel.
