Ce traitement sécuritaire et graduel se pratique avec des séances multiples pour éviter les effets secondaires importants des produits chimiques et des traitements au laser en profondeur.
De petits cristaux fins comme du sable sont propulsés par jet d’air afin de nettoyer doucement la peau et nettoyer ses taches superficielles.
De minces couches de peau sont enlevées en douceur durant chaque séance de microdermabrasion. Il existe maintenant plus de 30 compagnies fabriquant des appareils de microdermabrasion, par conséquent on retrouve des noms divers. Les plus connus sont Ultrapeel, Megapeel, Parisian-peel, California-peel.
